Opera Grand Rapids is proud to announce the first annual Opera Week in Grand Rapids. Running October 27 through November 2, Opera Week will feature discounts and special deals at local restaurants and businesses with the “Opera Signature Pass,” pop-up performances throughout downtown, an Opera Education Day in partnership with the Grand Rapids Public Schools, the opportunity to Trick or Treat @The Betty, and two stellar performances of the comedic opera, The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan at St. Cecilia Music Center.
Friday, October 25 & Saturday, October 26 | 8:00 PM | Tristan and Isolde | DeVos Performance Hall
Start your Opera Week celebrations early with an exciting performance by our friends at Grand Rapids Symphony! Wagner’s sensual “Tristan and Isolde” and stirring “Tannhauser” will surge and thrill. The Grand Rapids Symphony and Chorus will sing Stravinsky’s haunting “Symphony of Psalms.” And Marcelo Lehninger celebrates the 80th birthday of his Brazilian compatriot, the noted composer Marlos Nobre, with the driving, rhythmically energized “Kabbalah.”

G&S’s beloved satire on Imperial British politics and institutions comes to life on the intimate stage of St. Cecilia Music Center. The poor wandering minstrel Nanki-Poo is in love with the lovely Yum-Yum, the ward of the Lord High Executioner, who has designs on her himself. The town swirls with satirical chaos when the Emperor (The Mikado) reveals that if no one is executed in the town, it will be reduced in stature to a village. Heads will comically roll in this Topsy-Turvey world.
Purchase tickets through the Opera Grand Rapids Box Office at 616-451-2741 or through Ticketmaster.
